"’tis orange i taste" Seems almost a sin for me to write so soon after my last post, and I wasn’t even sure this was blog-worthy (…not that everything else I’ve ever blogged about is) - but in the end, rereading this bit below, taken from this blog, made me log in to WordPress with indignation:
Just Googling ‘orange smarties’ will get you lots of forum/discussion links where people debate the existence of a different flavour in the orange Smartie. Guess what: An archived Nestlé[1] page says yes, there is, it’s orange-flavoured. A page on Nestlé UK affirms it. The reason for my indignation is obviously because I am one of those aforementioned crackpots. I have for some time argued[2] that the orange Smartie tasted different from (and nicer than) the others, which was why I always sought it first when encountering one of ‘em tubes. I would wonder if it was just all in my head. But now the Internet has eased my anxieties again - I am not alone. Nor was I wrong, ha! * 1 - This is not the first time I have mentioned the brand. It appears briefly in the post I wrote on an AIDS talk. |

"IE hate reprised" It’s been a while since I joined any webcliques or similar innovations, but the other day I was stressing out with IE again (see post entitled “i hate that E“) and following much swearing and screaming, the temptation to add my name to The Internet Explorer Hatelisting was overwhelming. |

"i hate that E" OMG I know I’m not the first but GAWD. I hate IE(<7). I struggle while making a decent-looking layout for multiple browsers and this includes several IE hacks and tricks and STILL IT SCREWS UP MY LAYOUT and STILL REFUSES TO DISPLAY THINGS PROPERLY DESPITE GOOD CODE. GRRRRRRRR [/end emo pissy post] |

"avoid the creeps like Monique" (This post was broken off from this one which was supposed to be a mere link dump. I wrote this with the website Asking For It in mind.) I had a disagreement once with some friends that girls who dress ‘provocatively’ deserve any lewd male attention they get. Only very recently I learnt about the whale tail though and I have to admit that in this case there is no question that sometimes the, er, call to attention is deliberate. I’m sure when ladies are dressed to impress they would appreciate (maybe in secret) the occasional male eye lingering an extra second or two, though as usual it is easy to cross the line where your mind goes from “Ooh yes I’m hot” to “Ew the dude’s a creep” and you decide to clear off. A couple seconds longer is clearly staring. The turning of the head to watch you walking past. If there’s more than one of them and they’re all looking at you, that’s an obvious nuisance. Of course the attractiveness (looks, age, status) of the staring party is also under consideration - admit it, you would be more flattered by a young creep than an old creep. But I don’t think it’s fair that wearing less automatically means you deserve more of any stares and comments you may possibly get from an admiring (not always in a good way) public. And no one, no one deserves to be made to feel uncomfortable by comments given to them by strangers based on the way they look and dress. |

"words and colours, LOL" I don’t use ‘LOL’ in general. Except today. AccessColor Tool checks the colour contrasts between text and background on your website. I got quite a few ‘fails’ there. My reaction? And yes you guessed it. LOL. Speaking of colour. I read somewhere the other day about some ’standard’ of website accessibility such that the navigation should retain the default blue-unvisited, purple-visited navigation colour scheme, so that people always know which colours are links. I should probably have gone and looked up said website before starting that paragraph, but seeing as it offended me and made me feel personally victimized as a webdesigner of non-blue-coloured links, I can’t really be bothered. Ha. Well I mean. I guess it’s good to make websites accessible. And some of my favourite websites does stick to that particular colour scheme. Like eBay. And there’s nothing wrong with blue links (though I have a preference for those that aren’t #0000FF). But that horrible purple of visited links. Eurgh. Eww. Get away from me. I guess that’s just me being perasan that I have a good eye for design. * * * Oh oh, I learnt a new word today. A lot of you will too if you hang around on Facebook and experience the wonder of the Facebook Apps. Anyway, it’s this: defenestrate. I have to say that my first thought was something err, not pure in nature.
